3rd Hand Cleaning and Painting provides professional cleaning and interior painting services to private homes in Quincy, Milton, and surrounding towns.
The owner, Gina Guglielmi, has held many roles in diverse industries, such as hospitality and manufacturing. She was even a franchisee operating Edible Arrangements from 2005 to 2009. After selling the franchise, she attended Le Cordon Bleu and earned an Associate in Culinary Arts. In 2011, with her degree, she moved into a lead role at BG Events and Catering and still works as an on-call chef when needed.
The pandemic hit, catering, like many industries, was hit hard, and it was uncertain when we’d go back to work. When the quarantine was lifted in the summer of 2020, Gina privately hired two laid-off maintenance/cleaning staff to do odd jobs around her house. Several of her neighbors hired them for their homes. One of them suggested she start a company and thought, “What do people want and need right now?” Safety? Health?—Cleaning! Thus, embarking on a new venture opening 3rd Hand Cleaning and Painting. It was while cleaning empty homes she noted that many were not cleaned properly before or after painting—so pairing cleaning with painting was a logical mix.
Over these last 2 years, we have built a crew of fully vetted cleaning techs and painters who go through a vigorous training program and background checks. We are actively hiring and have implemented a fantastic compensation system called “Empowered Pay.” Staff is motivated to perform efficient, quality work and earn a good living wage. We offer performance bonuses and encourage tipping. We believe in hiring for integrity and basic skills—the rest we can train.
We also offer our customers the option to be on our Flex program for deep discounts! We volunteer time to the “Cleaning for a Reason,” a charity that assigns us houses of cancer patients to clean for Free! Boston 25 News featured the charity and us in their “Positively Massachusetts” segment.
Our future is bright, and while we started this small business out of need, to make a living during uncertain times, we stay because we love to serve and help people, people who appreciate the hard work it takes to keep a clean home, especially those who cannot physically or mentally keep their home beautiful. This work is so rewarding!
